Central Washington University offers a vibrant array of art exhibits and visiting artists, providing a rich cultural experience for students and the community. The gallery operates during the academic year from Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on Saturdays from 1 to 5 p.m. It remains closed on Sundays and university holidays.
Winter 2025 Exhibitions
Interweavings: Photography and Sculpture by Jeanne K. Simmons
This captivating exhibit will be on display from January 16 to February 8, 2025. An opening reception is scheduled for Thursday, January 16, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sarah Spurgeon Gallery, located in Randall Hall, Room 141.
Jeanne K. Simmons, an environmental artist from Port Townsend, Washington, showcases her profound connection to nature through her art. Her work, which includes photographs of figures seamlessly integrated into natural landscapes and sculptures crafted from foraged materials, reflects her belief in the intricate beauty of the natural world. One of her notable works, "Phoenix from the Flame (for Sinead)," a photograph from 2023, will be featured in the exhibit.
Selections from the Crow's Shadow Institute of the Arts Print Collection
This exhibit will be available for viewing from February 20 to March 22, 2025. The opening events on Thursday, February 20, include a lecture by Michael Holloman of the Colville Confederated Tribes, who is an Associate Professor at Washington State University. The lecture will take place from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Student Union and Recreation Center Theatre, Room 210, followed by a reception from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sarah Spurgeon Gallery.
The Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts (CSIA), located on the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, is celebrated for its focus on contemporary fine art printmaking. The exhibit at CWU's Sarah Spurgeon Gallery will feature a selection of prints by Native American artists from CSIA's permanent collection. This exhibition is presented in conjunction with a companion exhibit at Gallery One Visual Arts Center, which will also run from February 20 to March 22, 2025.
Highlighted works include Wendy Red Star's "Her Dreams Are True (Julia Bad Boy)," a 2020 lithograph measuring 20 1/4 inches by 20 inches, and James Lavadour's "This Good Land," a 2017 lithograph measuring 60 inches by 39 1/2 inches.
