Churchill Downs Racetrack has proudly announced Tyler Robertson as the creator of the 2025 'Official Art of the Kentucky Derby'. Known for his vibrant sporting art, Robertson, a Louisville-based artist, employs bold colors and palette knife techniques to blend classical aesthetics with modern symbolism, resulting in a unique and expressive style.
The artwork for the 151st Kentucky Derby, sponsored by Woodford Reserve, beautifully depicts the thrilling moment when horses surge into the first turn. The historic Churchill Downs clubhouse and the iconic Twin Spires provide a majestic backdrop, capturing the essence of this renowned event.
With nearly 20 years of experience as an elementary school teacher in Louisville, Robertson draws inspiration from contemporary, modern, and stylized art forms. His impressive portfolio includes being an officially licensed artist for the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club and exhibiting “A Hero's Journey: a contemporary study of jockeys” in London. His passion for horse racing was sparked during his time at the University of Louisville in 2001.
Fans will have the chance to meet Robertson in person at Churchill Downs on Friday, November 29, where he will be signing prints of his artwork. This event will be held at the Churchill Downs Store, conveniently located just inside the Paddock Gate, from 2 to 4 p.m.
“We are excited to feature Tyler's exceptional talent as this year's artist,” stated Casey Ramage, Vice President of Marketing and Partnerships at Churchill Downs Racetrack. “His artwork captures the iconic spectacle of the Kentucky Derby with a vibrant, visual style that offers a fresh perspective, sure to be cherished by fans for generations.”
Robertson's 'Official Art of the Kentucky Derby' will be prominently displayed on the 2025 Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks official racing programs, as well as a range of merchandise.
“Being named the official artist for the 151st running of the Kentucky Derby is an incredible honor,” Robertson expressed. “As a sporting artist with a focus on Thoroughbreds, this opportunity allows me to share my style and celebrate the power and elegance of these athletes on such a prestigious stage.”
